The Swanage Railway Company

- Introduction to the Swanage Railway Company

The Swanage Railway Company operates the trains, maintains the infrastructure, employees the paid staff and manages all staff, whether paid or volunteer, that enable the organisation to operate. All volunteer staff working on the railway are expected to comply with the Company's policies and procedures in the same way as the Company's paid employees.

The Company is controlled by its Board of Directors with the Company's General Manager responsible for the day to day management. The Board is responsible for appointing Directors. However since the SRT holds all the voting shares in the Company, at least half of the Directors are always drawn from the SRT's Council of Management.

Strategic Plan

The development of the Swanage Railway is controlled via a Strategic Plan that is agreed with the Trust and periodically reviewed. This is supported by a number of further plan that provide more detail on key aspects of the Strategic Plan. This 'blueprint' sets the overall objectives but its implementation is dependent on funding being available. Much of the responsibility of funding these developments falls to the Trust.

The Strategic Plan is currently being re-issued and the sections will appear here as they are adopted.
