- Projects

  A large number of projects are underway at any one time. Most of these are related to maintaining the infrastructure and rolling stock used to operate the line. However, a key activity for the Trust are projects aimed at extending facilities.

This page provides links to more information on some current Trust projects. All these projects are dependent on securing new funding and attracting the volunteers needed to help bring them to fruition. Contact information is provided with each project. Details of many other projects are given in the sections on each department.

Bulleid 4365 Restoration

Former Southern Railway built Bulleid Semi-Open Brake Third coach number 4365 was the first coach acquired by the Swanage Railway and ran on the line until withdrawn for overhaul in 1997.

The Trust has been accumulating funds for a number of years towards the restoration of its heritage coach fleet. 4365 is the first vehicle in this program. More...

The Isle of Purbeck has a rich mineral history and once boasted a substantial network of narrow gauge lines to convey minerals to both rail and sea links.

Project Wareham

The Swanage Branch was traditionally well served with both local and direct services to London. The loss of the rail connection was particularly significant in area with limited road links.
