The Council of Management is the Trust's Board and is concerned
more with strategy and fundraising with operational matters
devolved to the trading subsidiary, the Swanage Railway Company.
These notes provide an overview of some of the matters discussed
this month.
- The recent deaths of volunteers Tony Lowery and Steve
Kerley and the wife of Frank Fletcher were noted with
sadness.
- The deteriorating financial position of Company and
Trust were again considered. The Finance Review Committee
was scheduled to meet again to consider possible changes.
- The 2005 Draw continues to produce disappointing returns
as a result of the near impossibility of finding members to
sell tickets. However the mailing to members had been more
encouraging than last year.
- A fresh initiative would be launched to encourage annual
and ordinary life members to upgrade to PLM status.
- Details for the movement of Bulleid coach 4365 to
Rampart were confirmed. The focus would be to address
structural issues uncovered during the earlier work. It was
hoped that the vehicle would return as a complete watertight
box but this would require some additional funding. Interior
refitting would be undertaken at Swanage.
- The planned arrival of Maunsell coaches 1323 and 6697
was confirmed.
- The earlier policy on advertising on trains was
confirmed; i.e. that posters should not be placed in an ad
hoc manner. However, an arrangement based on BR/SR practice
using landscape frames would be acceptable providing they
were not permanently attached.
Future CoM meetings will take place at 2pm on the following
Saturdays: 3rd September and 24th September. The AGM is at
the Mowlem Theatre on October 1st. |
